Hardware & compatibility
What InstantOS runs on today, and current limitations.
Requirements
- x86-64 CPU (64-bit). No 32-bit support.
- UEFI firmware. Legacy/BIOS boot is not supported.
- A few hundred MB of RAM for the base system.
Known limitations
InstantOS is pre-1.0 and primarily developed against virtual machines. Expect:
- Limited driver coverage (test in a VM first — QEMU/KVM works well).
- No stable ABI guarantees yet; rebuild programs against the matching image.
- x86-64 only, mirroring the insty compiler’s single supported architecture.
